What a busy start to the new school year we have had! We are all getting used to the new routines of being in Year 1, and have lots of new things to remember:
Our PE day is Monday – we just need shorts and a T-shirt, as we are indoors for PE this term. We are learning how to play a new musical instrument – the ocarina – and our lessons in class are going really well (we really have to concentrate!).
On Tuesdays we visit the school library at lunchtime; the Year 5 librarians help us choose books and organise ourselves.
On Wednesdays we go to the hall to join with the other children from our Early Education Phase to learn new songs with Mrs Wilcox.
Thursday is the morning that parents and other grown-ups are invited to come in to school to read with us – we have a lovely selection of books to share from Wakefield Library Service.
And on Fridays we share in the Celebration Assembly with the rest of school, to find out who the Scholars of the Week are, alongside all the other special achievements.
We continue to learn through a variety of activities and approaches, as we did when we were in Foundation Stage. We work together as a whole class, sometimes in a small group, and sometimes alongside our friends on our own self-initiated tasks.
This year our community project is the Woodland Trust – it will be interesting to find out all about woodlands and how they change as the year goes on.
