Rook’s Nest Academy Mini Newsletter
Issue 14 – July 2020
Dear children,
We are very nearly at the start of the summer holidays. What a strange year it has been so far. This week you were told who your new class teacher is going to be for September. I know some of you were concerned that you are not in the same class as friends but I can assure you that you will still see them at breaks and lunchtime. It will be a new year and a new start. Some things will be different to how you remembered them but where we can keep things the same, we will certainly try to. Normally we would have done a transition day so you could slowly get used to the new changes. However, this is not going to be possible because of the way we have to run the school safely. I will be sending out more information next week to try and explain what life in school will be like in September. In the meantime, your new teachers have sent you a message so just click on their links to hear from them.

When you return we will try to ensure that school is as normal as it possibly can be. We will still have interesting new topics and WOW activities. As soon as we can, we will once again plan exciting school visits. The Year 4 & 5 can look forward to visiting Boggle Hole next summer. We are hoping the Y6 residential to Robinwood will take place in October (we await further government guidance and will let you know as soon as possible).
After the summer holidays some staff will not be with us. Mrs O’Mally, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Napier will no longer be working at the academy as teacher assistants, so we thank them for all the help and support they have given our children. Miss Dervisevic is leaving us to go to university – after working here with all our wonderful teachers she has decided that she would like to train to be a teacher so we might see her back in another role. We wish her all the best for the future. Miss Carter will also be leaving us. She is embarking on an exciting new project where she will be able to use her amazing artistic skills. We wish her every success.
Sadly, we will also be saying good bye to a member of staff who has been at Rooks Nest for a long time and is very much-loved part of the family. Mrs Butcher, Nursery Nurse, has decided to retire from education and have a well-deserved rest. We will be very sorry to see her go but can’t imagine for one minute that she won’t be back to visit us regularly.
Y6 children of course will also have left us when we return in September. We have some fun things lined up for the pupils still in school over the next week and a special video message from our Chair of Governors which will be put on the website so Y6 pupils at home can also watch it. Just a quick reminder to those Y6 pupils not in school – your reports are here to be collected!
We have managed to arrange for the holiday club to go ahead over the summer and the parents who have already secured a place have been contacted. Information about the measures we have put in place are on the website and any concerns parents have should look there first. If you still have questions then please contact Mrs Saville on 07742977340. We are also hoping to be in a position in September for Flyers to restart (before and after school provision). We will be sending out confirmation of this before the end of term but if you require a place, then again please contact Mrs Saville once a decision has been made.
I am still loving receiving the emails and calls telling me what you have been up to and showing me homework. I would be happy to have a chat with any of you next week before we break up if you want.
Speak to you soon
Ms Dawson
