News

Newsletter

In an effort to better reach parents and carers and to have less impact on the environment we are now publishing the newsletter in this online format.  We hope you find this convenient and easy to access.  If you experience any issues please contact Mr Williams (mwilliams@rooksnestacademy.co.uk).  We will still provide a printed copy when requested at the school office.

Parking

Can we once again remind parents of the danger to children of illegal parking outside the school at the start and end of the day. Cheers, the bar at the top of Newton Lane, have agreed to allow parking for parents who live too far away to walk. This also applies to those using taxis. Please do not park on the pavement as this often blocks pedestrians and encourages crossing the busy road at dangerous places.  Also, do not park blocking the entrance to either the school car park or local residents’ driveways; even if you are sat waiting in the car.

Parents on Playground

Thank you to all parents who have been helping us by moving off the playground in the morning.  Can we remind everyone that the bell is an indication that it is time to move away so that the children can come safely into the school building.

Packed Lunches

Please do not include Nutella© or other nutty spreads in any packed lunches as we are a nut free school.  Some of our students have severe allergies so we must do our best to reduce their exposure to nuts.

Can we also remind parents that fizzy drinks and “sports” drinks are not allowed.

Internet Safety

Thank you to those who came along to hear the talk by PC Dix.  There are some very interesting resources which were discussed but not seen due to lack of time.  Please see the Thinkuknow.co.uk website for further details.

Prodigy Maths

We are in the process of enrolling the students in a new online maths game called prodigy.  A letter will be sent home with details of how parents and children can login to the service.  We would like to emphasise that while there are additional membership levels available for purchase, we do not require parents to pay for this.  There is enough free content for the students as part of the standard package.

Forest School

We’d like to say a huge thank you to SR Trees facebook.com/srtrees for providing us with bark mulch to put down in our forest school. It was getting a bit boggy up there!

Parents can access a newsletter specifically about our forest schools experience on our website at rooksnestacademy.co.uk/forest-school-newsletter/.

Swimming

If you believe your child cannot swim the national curriculum required 25m and have already had lessons through school, they qualify to participate in a programme being run by WMDC.  A letter has been sent home but you can also download a copy here.

Library

Thank you to everyone who has donated books requested for the school library.  It is a huge help to us, allowing us to replace the book most read by the children.  These books quickly become worn out (I’m sure everyone can relate).

We are now looking for sets of Harry Potter (preferably good condition first edition) , Tom Gates books, the 39 Clues series and books by Pseudonymous Bosch.

Bun Sale

There will be a bun sale in school on 3rd March to raise money for the Pinderfields Chemotherapy Department.
